I haven't read any of the other books but from the hints given regarding Kendall's awakening I would love to read the previous three. The main character Rachel's gut wrenching struggle to understand her relationships, love, motherhood, and finally herself take readers on a compelling literary journey. No matter how long Blight publishes, no matter his standing in the Ivy League, he will never be fit to polish Douglass’s boots. I entitled this "good enough" because it's how I felt. Additionally, you did get some insight into Shane as a main character: his reactions to feelings of abandonment, his discomfort around girls and his growing unease about the decisions he was making. If you haven't gotten into this series yet, then you definitely should, especially if you're like me and have tried in vain to get into the world of comics.
